Fall 2013 fashion trends preview

Fashion is a little like time travel, always borrowing from the past but living in the future. Forecasting trends ahead helps inform our choices of what to buy now. What will be seasonal, what will last, what will be capturing our attention and inspiring our tastes 6 months or a year from now?

Just as J.Crew opens its online doors to the world, the all-American retailer enrolls street style power couple Garance Dore and Scott Schuman to canvas the globe for the tastemakers that sport J.Crew. The international tour takes them from Berlin to Hong Kong, London to Sydney, visiting some of the most stylish people in the world and providing us a glimpse into their everyday styles and the cities they inhabit.

Polina and nature: the title says it all

Such a title as Polina and Nature is so amazingly uncomplicated that one could almost feel compelled to try and read deeper meaning – meaning that probably isn’t there – into Serge-Edouard’s shoot. But what it actually says is that this is not so much a fashion shoot as a man plying his craft. It’s an art title, describing exactly what the artwork is, in the way that Rembrandt’s Philosopher in Meditation or Galizia’s Apples in a dish describe their respective works, or the way Madonna and Child titles a thousand paintings of the Madonna and Child. It may not be alike those particular pieces but the point is this: what you see is the artist presenting their artwork. And what you see, is what you get.

As such there’s no complex credit list of styling team, hair and makeup: it’s Serge-Edouard and Polina… And nature.
